Current Status of the House—June 3, 2020
It is the best of times; it is the worst of times… For sure it is COVID-19 times….
As the House starts to awaken from the slumber of the last few months, it is occurring slowly and methodically and with the health and welfare of guests, staff, and volunteers foremost in our minds and hearts. Government directions and the protocols of our hospitals and medical offices are also being considered as we move forward.
Currently, we are accepting new guests at the Veterans Guest House on a limited basis. The number of rooms available is significantly reduced to maintain physical distance among non-household members. This also allows us to ensure that facilities are sanitized in a manner consistent with current industry standards.
If you have a need to use the Veterans Guest House, it is recommended that you call the Guest House. 775-324-6958, x10. You will be screened by staff to ensure that you meet the current protocols that are in place. These protocols are in place to protect our existing guests, most of whom are receiving cancer treatments and have a compromised immune system, new guests, and our staff. As we move forward these protocols will be adjusted to reflect the best information that is available to us. Just because you have received notice of an appointment does not mean that appointment will happen. As you have experienced to date, many of those appointments have been changed in the past and may be changed in the future. We highly recommend that you contact us at least one week in advance of any appointment you may have.
The House is closed to all visitors. If you are dropping something off, please call in advance to ensure that we will accept the item and to arrange for drop-off
In-kind donations can be so helpful to the house, and allow us to continue serving our Veterans. At this time, we are in need of the following items:
- Clorox Wipes
- 409 Cleaner (refill bottles are acceptable)
- Packaged Cookies
- Individual cans of V8 or 100% juice
We are not in need of any furniture, clothing or unsolicited items.
Please call Kathi at 775-324-6958, x10 for more information about donations.
You can send financial support by US Mail to 880 Locust Street, Reno, NV 89502-0948 or you can go to www.veteransguesthouse.org/donate to donate by credit card.
At this time, we have suspended all volunteer activities. If you are a volunteer, please know how much we appreciate your dedication to our Veterans, and we cannot wait to see volunteers back at the house when we reopen.
At this time, Golfing for Our Heroes (August 24) and Boots Meet Fashion, Fashion Meets Fun Champagne Luncheon (October 16th) will move forward as planned. Should this change, we will notify those who have registered individually.
