COVID19

Current Status of the House—June 3, 2020

It is the best of times; it is the worst of times…  For sure it is COVID-19 times….

As hospitals and medical offices are now seeing more in person patients and surgeries are being rescheduled, the House is welcoming more guests also.  Foremost in our minds and hearts is the health and welfare of guests, staff, and volunteers. Due to this we have many new protocols in place.  Government directions and the protocols of our hospitals and medical offices are still being considered as we move forward.

Guests:

Currently, we are accepting new guests at the Veterans Guest House on a limited basis. The number of rooms available is significantly reduced to maintain physical distance among non-household members. This also allows us to ensure that facilities are sanitized in a manner consistent with current industry standards.

If you have a need to use the Veterans Guest House, it is recommended that you call the Guest House. 775-324-6958, x10.  You will be screened by staff to ensure that you meet the current protocols that are in place. At this time a current negative COVID-19 test is not required to stay but other COVID-19 related criteria must be met. These protocols are in place to protect our existing guests, many of whom are receiving cancer treatments and have a compromised immune system, new guests, and our staff. As we move forward these protocols will be adjusted to reflect the best information that is available to us. We highly recommend that you contact us at least one week in advance of any appointment you may have.

Visitors:
The House is closed to all visitors. If you are dropping something off, please call in advance to ensure that we will accept the item and to arrange for drop-off

Donations/ Meals
In-kind donations can be so helpful to the house and allow us to continue serving our Veterans. Currently, we are in need of the following items:

  • Clorox Wipes
  • Spray Lysol
  • White sugar in packets (no bulk)
  • Cookies

We are not in need of any furniture, clothing or unsolicited items.

Please call Kathi at 775-324-6958, x10 for more information about donations.

You can send financial support by US Mail to 880 Locust Street, Reno, NV 89502-0948 or you can go to www.veteransguesthouse.org/donate to donate by credit card.

Volunteers
At this time, we have suspended most volunteer activities. If you are a volunteer, please know how much we appreciate your dedication to our Veterans, and we cannot wait to see volunteers back at the house when we reopen.

Future Events
Boots Meet Fashion, Fashion Meets Fun Champagne Luncheon (October 16th) has been canceled.

The Fashion Show is one of our largest fundraisers of the year. The funding from this event helps us continue to provide essential care for our Veterans and their families. Without this event, we are projected to fall significantly short of our budgeted income for 2020. But you can help! Will you consider making a $50 donation (equal to the Boots Meet Fashion, Fashion Meets Fun ticket price) today in place of attending the event? Donte Now
