The VAMC service territory is over 100,000 sq.mi. It covers NINE counties in northern Nevada and EIGHT counties in eastern California; Bishop on the south, Auburn on the west, Elko on the north and Ely to the east. There are over 130,000 veterans living in that area today. Until recently most of the veterans served at the Guest House received care through the VAMC system. The Guest House is branching out to ensure that all veterans and their families are supported regardless of where they receive medical care in the Reno/Sparks area. The forecasted use of the VAMC alone indicates the need for additional housing during the next five to 10 years. In addition, with the construction of the new Nevada State Veterans Home in Reno, the need for family support will increase. The Guest House has moved forward and thanks to many, the construction of a new 12,000 sq. ft. expansion with 21 beds is almost complete. This home will be connected to the existing structure and is scheduled for completion in Summer 2018. Visit the Capital Campaign page to learn more.
“Let me start by saying this house and the concept is amazing. The people who make everything run and work together are great! I stayed here a few times while my grandfather was in the hospital. My Mom was able to be with him the entire time. This House became her second home. Thank you for taking care of her too. The people who work here and the visitors are some of the most amazing people with some of the best backgrounds and stories. It is wonderful to be around so many people who care – you really feel loved and wanted. Thank you so much for the hospitality.”
